Bic Tieu’s latest body of metal and lacquer objects is on display at the Art Gallery of NSW. The work is included in a group exhibition titled And Still I Rise curated by Natalie Seiz. The exhibition presents 20 culturally diverse, internationally recognised women artists based in Australia.

Bic’s work, Drawn to Place: Charms Tracing Home, Memory and Migration, is a site-specific installation commissioned by the Art Gallery of NSW and supported by the UNSW School of Art and Design Research Grant. The installation features 100 charms and 15 large metal and lacquer objects within a 10-metre-long glass case.

Charm objects expressed as clouds, flowers, and sea forms are made using alchemic processes of metal casting, alloy mixing, patination alongside Asian lacquer, producing a constellation of floating objects.
