Join us for a special National Science Week makerspace workshop designed for home-school children aged 8–12 years.

In this two-hour, hands-on session, young makers will explore the exciting world of 3D design and printing as they imagine and create their very own unique planet. Starting off with a simple sphere, kids will imagine and design their own unique planet, using beginner-friendly CAD (computer aided design) software.

Guided by our experienced facilitators, participants will discover essential digital fabrication skills while building confidence and creativity. This workshop offers a welcoming, collaborative environment where children can learn side by side, share ideas, and spark new interests in science, design, and technology.

No previous experience needed—just bring your imagination and get ready to design, print, and take home your own miniature planet creation!

What you’ll learn:

  • Core digital fabrication skills: 3D design, 3D printing, graphic design, laser cutting

  • How to use open-source CAD software like Tinkercad and Onshape for simple design projects

  • How to use makerspace tools and equipment with support from experienced facilitators

What you’ll have access to:

  • Tools and resources: 3D printers, craft supplies and STEM kits – all materials provided

  • Devices: high-powered laptops and iPads

  • 3D prints limited to 1hr per student -
