Learn to plan your own bike-friendly route!

Join us for a Guided Ride – Route Planning Edition, where you take the lead! Instead of just following the ride, you’ll learn how to plan your own route, test it in real-world conditions, and get the skills to ride with confidence anywhere.

What you’ll learn:

  • How and when to use Google Maps, Ride with GPS, and other tools without getting stitched up.

  • How to tell if a street is truly bike-friendly (or just looks that way on a map).

  • The difference between arterial roads, quiet streets, and sneaky shortcuts.

  • Where you’re actually allowed to ride (bus lanes, footpaths, shared spaces).

  • How to integrate public transport into your ride. Voice vs. visual navigation – what works best for you?

How it works:

We’ll split up, into small groups (max. 5 people) who will plan their own routes with an instructor to assist and answer questions.

The groups will ride the planned routes, and discuss the pros & cons.

At the end, we’ll compare notes, refine our skills, and gain confidence in urban navigation!

Use these skills anywhere.

Whether you’re riding in Sydney, planning a weekend adventure, or mapping out a cross-continent trip, knowing how to plan a solid route makes riding better.

Guided rides on behalf of City of Sydney are led by friendly, professional guides from Pedal Set Go. Your instructors have real-world experience planning routes for Sydney Cycling programs as well as father afield, planning and riding from London to Sydney.

This guided ride is for people wanting to learn bicycle-friendly routes to navigate their city. We ride at a leisurely pace, giving you time to see sights, take photos, and speak with the guides and other riders.

Riding is about building connections, not just the ride. Make friends, exchange stories, and learn how to plan your own journeys.

You'll need:

  • Your own roadworthy bike and helmet

  • Water bottle and snacks

  • Your sense of adventure

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Bookings required. Limited spots – book now!

We encourage participants to complete the Cycling in the City course before joining a guided ride. The Cycling in the City course will equip you with the skills you need to ride in Sydney.
