Community Conversations with the Powerhouse – Science

When

Wednesday 27 August from 11am to 12:30pm

Each month, the Collection Conversations series invites you to explore history through the eyes of Powerhouse Museum volunteers.

Inspired by the Powerhouse Collection, these engaging talks spark curiosity and conversation, blending storytelling with unique insights from volunteers and curatorial research. Add your voice to the conversation!

Presented by Powerhouse volunteers, this session invites visitors to consider the shared human stories behind scientific progress. It celebrates the intersections of art and science, and offers a space to reflect on how knowledge is made – and remade – through practice, creativity and community.

How have people used science to navigate the skies, observe the stars, or reimagine the human body? This volunteer-led Collection Conversation explores how cultures around the world have shaped scientific understanding through creativity, necessity and innovation.

From signal kites used in early military communication to one of the first aircraft flown in Australia, the stories shared reflect the many ways science is lived and applied.

Morning tea is provided and bookings are recommended.

We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs, please contact the centre on 02 9298 3111 or ultimocc@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au.
