Astrid & Mikella Sunset Opera

Come along to an impromptu short operatic concert featuring our local gems, Astrid (piano) and Mikella (voice). They are a duo of Sydney-based mums who initially met by chance on the sidelines of the soccer field through their children, but then discovered their shared love of classical music and performance. 

Mikella is an operatic 'Soprano Spinto' with a passion for dramatic pieces. She is accompanied by Astrid, who is an accomplished pianist and former piano teacher. Whilst their respective professional careers took them into roles within the corporate world, they have reconnected with their musical origins and are delighted to be performing as a duo.

Mikella and Astrid will present an interesting and varied 30 minute program featuring much-loved Italian arias for alto, mezzo and soprano voices. The classic pieces for voice and piano will include:

• Lascia ch’io pianga – George Frideric Handel from Rinaldo

• Elvira Madigan Theme (Piano Concerto No. 21) – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 

• Che farò senza Euridice – Christoph Willibald Gluck from Orfeo ed Euridice

• O mio babbino caro – Giacomo Puccini from Gianni Schicchi

• Non so più cosa son, cosa faccio – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from Le nozze di Figaro

• Quando me’n vo – Giacomo Puccini from La bohème (piano only)

• Vissi d’arte – Giacomo Puccini from Tosca

The Reginald Murphy Community Centre is open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 3:30pm. There's a table tennis table, computers, wifi, books to borrow, a piano, sewing machines and tea and coffee all free. A weekly community lunch is held on Wednesdays at 12pm for $10. Everyone is welcome!
