Join Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Dr Nicholas Milton AM and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra for an electrifying musical adventure celebrating some of the most exhilarating works in the orchestral repertoire.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s spectacular Overture to The Magic Flute sets the tone for this vibrant program, capturing the excitement and grandeur of the composer’s final opera. A timeless tale of courage and love, the story follows a prince who overcomes fearsome challenges to win the hand of a princess – with a little help from a magic flute.
More than two centuries later, acclaimed Australian composer Matthew Hindson reimagines the possibilities of the instrument in his high-energy flute concerto House Music. Audiences will be thrilled by the extraordinary artistry of rising German flute star Meret Louisa Vogel, whose virtuosic performance showcases astonishing sounds and extended techniques that push the flute to its limits.
The concert concludes with the radiant beauty of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No.2 in D, Op.73. Composed during a lakeside summer in Pörtschach, Austria, this warm and lyrical masterpiece brings the program to a serene and uplifting close. The work holds special significance for Nicholas Milton, who has spent the past four years in the region as Chief Conductor at the State Opera House.
