A solo exhibition by artist Christine Choi exploring colour and abstraction through emotion and memory.

This exhibition explores colour as a language of seeing, feeling, and remembering. My abstract paintings are not representations of specific places or objects, but expressions of inner landscapes, moments of energy, rhythm, and emotion translated into form and hue.

I am interested in how the world might appear if our vision were altered: reduced to a limited palette, softened into blurred outlines, or refracted through unseen filters. In this imagined space, colour moves beyond surface description to become emotion, sensation, and presence. Each canvas is an exploration of perception, revealing not only the world around me, but the hidden patterns of how I see.

The works are bold, layered, and luminous, inviting viewers into an open dialogue with colour itself. Rather than guiding a single interpretation, I hope the paintings awaken personal memories, moods, and sensations, acknowledging that each of us experiences the world through our own shifting filters.

At its heart, this exhibition is about discovery: of unexpected harmonies, inner resonances, and the ability of abstraction to move us beyond the visible into the deeply felt. It is an invitation to slow down, breathe with colour, and rediscover the joy of seeing anew.

About the artist

Christine Choi is a Sydney-based artist whose practice focuses on painting the Australian landscape, with particular attention to light, colour, and expansive space. Drawing inspiration from her experiences of the changing land across New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory, her work seeks to capture both the atmosphere and spirit of place.

Christine holds an Advanced Diploma and Diploma in Visual Arts from Meadowbank TAFE, following earlier postgraduate study with a master's degree in economics completed in South Korea. She has exhibited widely, including a solo exhibition at NSW Parliament House, Fountain Court (2025), and curated and group exhibitions across New South Wales. Her work has been recognised through selection as a finalist in numerous major Australian art prizes, including the Paddington Art Prize, Nora Heysen Prize, Pro Hart Outback Art Prize and Fisher’s Ghost Art Award.
