‘Traffic Light Party’ written by Izzy Azzopardi and directed by Brea Macey, is Jezebel Productions’ debut show that will be playing at The Actors Pulse Playhouse, Redfern from 9th-13th September as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival.
Set at a university party with the familiar (and slightly obnoxious) “traffic light” theme — wear red if you're taken, yellow if it's complicated, and green if you're single — ‘Traffic Light Party’ is a darkly funny and emotionally charged exploration of modern connection. The play interrogates the way young adults navigate love, sex, friendship, and ambiguity in a world that craves clarity but thrives in the grey. What do our labels say about the value we place on different kinds of relationships? If people are ‘more than’ friends, what does that say about the value of friendship? If it’s ‘just’ sex do boundaries still need to be respected?
Shortlisted for the 2025 Katie Lees Fellowship, Izzy Azzopardi’s 'Traffic Light Party' thematically examines the subconscious hierarchy of relationships and the absurdity of labels, challenging the definition of love and humanity’s moral compass.
With a dynamic ensemble cast and a sharp, heartfelt script, Traffic Light Party offers a fresh perspective on love, boundaries, and the moral messiness of 20-something life. Oozing with drama, comedy, absurdism and physical theatre, audiences are encouraged to fasten their seatbelts… you don’t want to miss this party!
