Think Fast: applied improv workshop
Thursday 16 April from 5pm to 8pm
Ever been put on the spot and wished you’d said something better? This free, hands-on workshop is for you.
Applied improv isn’t about being funny or performing comedy. It’s about getting out of your head, thinking on your feet, telling your story, and connecting with people in a way that feels genuine. Through a series of fast-paced, interactive activities, you’ll build practical communication skills you can use in everyday situations.
You’ll explore three areas most people want to improve:
Impromptu speaking - learn how to express your ideas clearly and authentically without overthinking
Active listening and presence - respond in the moment, build on others’ ideas, and read the room
Confidence and connection - develop natural, engaging communication for real situations like interviews, presentations, difficult conversations, and meeting new people
Activities are delivered in pairs, small groups, and whole-group formats, keeping the session energetic and interactive.
The workshop is facilitated by Dave Crisante, founder of the Sydney Comedy School and a former ABC journalist, diplomat, political speechwriter, and professional comedian. Dave brings decades of experience across communication, comedy, and learning design.
This workshop is designed for young people aged 16–24. Whether you’re naturally outgoing or more reserved, the goal is to step outside your comfort zone and find your voice. Mess up? Great. That’s part of the process. You’ll leave with practical skills you can apply immediately in social, study, and work settings.
Spots are limited and registrations are essential.
This workshop is co-designed and presented by young people from the City of Sydney Youth Opportunities Program as part of Youth Week 2026.
