In this fun workshop, you’ll learn 3D modelling techniques to design your own planet using CAD (computer aided design).

Starting with a simple sphere, you’ll design your own planet by adding unique surface features and landforms. Think craters, towering mountain ranges, vast canyons, or swirling storm systems inspired by Jupiter. You can explore realistic planetary features or invent entirely new geological formations.

You’ll be guided to bring your planet to life using Blender 3D in our fully equipped makerspace. Blender 3D is a free, beginner-friendly CAD tool that makes it easy to turn your ideas into 3D models.

This fun, hands-on session is designed for teens to explore the makerspace, learn fun STEM skills, and explore 3D printing.

What you’ll learn:

  • Basic 3D design (CAD) using Blender 3D

  • Preparing your files for 3D printing

  • Basic 3D printing skills with the Bambu X1 3D printer

What you’ll take home:

  • A 3D printed design, limited to a print time of 2 hours

  • You can collect your 3D print from the level 1 library loans desk 1 week after the workshop
