Join Yoshi Ito for a hands-on sashiko workshop that goes beyond craft to explore the Japanese philosophy of mottainai – a mindful approach to waste that blends gratitude, humility and creativity. Rooted in the idea of respecting resources, this workshop will introduce you to traditional Japanese textile repair and reuse techniques such as sashiko.
You’ll learn practical sashiko sewing and repair skills while reflecting on how small, thoughtful actions like fixing rather than discarding can have a big impact.
Yoshi will share not only techniques but also stories and cultural insights into how these practices connect to the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and a deeper respect for materials, time and effort.
This is not just a craft workshop, it’s an invitation to slow down, connect with your belongings and honour the value in what we already have.
