Roxane Gay: In Conversation

When

Friday 12 June from 7:30pm to 9pm

Cost

Starting from: $39.00

Join prolific American author and cultural critic Roxane Gay at City Recital Hall for an exclusive conversation with Whadjuk Noongar journalist, author and broadcaster Narelda Jacobs OAM, as part of Vivid Minds' Creative Trailblazers series.

Since the release of Bad Feminist (2014), her culture-shifting best-selling essay collection, Gay has been a guiding voice of reason, clarity and empathy in American culture. Her next book, How to Be Heard (2017), is a guide for aspiring writers, but the title could double as a mantra for the through-line of her work.

A vital voice on politics, feminism, race, power and pop culture, Gay’s writing spans unflinching honest memoir Hunger (2017), best-selling short-story collection Difficult Women (2017), Marvel comic book series World of Wakanda, and incisive cultural criticism as a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times (anthologised in 2023’s Opinions), among much more.

Together with Jacobs, Gay will carefully dissect our current era of conflict and a dissolving centre, in a timely, expansive conversation that builds upon her body of work.

Joining Roxane Gay is Narelda Jacobs OAM

Narelda Jacobs OAM is a Whadjuk Noongar journalist, presenter and author. Her career at Network 10 spans a quarter of a century. You'll also find her on NITV and SBS, the ABC, podcast airwaves, in documentaries and Australian dramas, hosting events and sharing her lived experience around the country and internationally.

This event is presented in partnership with Vivid Sydney.
