Recycle It Saturday: a free recycling drop-off event

Recycle It Saturday is a partnership between City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra councils. We only accept items from residents of these council areas. We'll ask for your address on the day.

  • This is a drive-through event. We'll unpack your vehicle for you.

  • Separate your items into different boxes or bags so we can easily remove them from your vehicle. We recommend recyclable cardboard boxes.

  • People walking or cycling can access a separate drop-off area.

What you can bring:

Unusable clothes, bedding and textiles (clean, dry and free of mould/chemicals)

  • Stained, worn/torn clothes, uniforms, fabric hats. No clothes in good condition, belts, handbags, backpacks, suitcases, bras, underwear, boxers, socks, swimwear.

  • Shoes

  • Blankets, doonas, quilts, sheets, towels, pillows, fabric mattress protectors and sleeping bags. No blankets/bedding with animal fur or hair, plastic mattress protectors or textiles with electric parts, e.g. electric blankets.

  • Soft toys (remove any batteries). No board games, hard toys.

  • Cushions, curtains (with hooks/eyelets removed – cut off the top section). No carpets/rugs.

  • Reusable shopping bags made from fabric

  • Rolls of fabric and offcuts

  • Items not good enough to be donated to charity

Electrical items and batteries (delete your data)

  • Household appliances: vacuum cleaners, microwaves, toasters, heaters, coffee machines, irons, pedestal fans

  • Entertainment/home office equipment: televisions, computers, laptops, keyboards, printers, stereos, gaming consoles, DVD players, DVDs/CDs, video recorders

  • Phones, cords, chargers, headphones

  • Power tools (no gas/petrol-powered items)

  • Vapes, e-cigarettes (empty of liquid)

  • Batteries, including car batteries. We accept up to 3 car batteries per vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist. Tape battery terminals with non-conductive tape, like electrical tape.

Aluminium coffee pods

  • Bring in a sealed plastic bag.

Printer cartridges

  • Inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges, toner bottles, fuser and drum units, fax rolls, print heads, waste hoppers/containers, collectors and kits.

Light bulbs (including energy saving or fluorescent globes/tubes)

  • Wrap in newspaper. Bring in a bag or box.

Polystyrene/styrofoam

  • From furniture/delivery packaging. No polystyrene with plastic lining, e.g. ice cream containers.

  • Keep pieces whole. Remove tape and glue. No bendy/squishy items (foam wrap, foam sheets, packing peanuts, bean bag filling).

Large cardboard - flattened

Camera film

  • No photos

X-ray, MRI and CT scans/films

  • Recycle envelopes and paper scans in your recycling bin.

Bicycles and scooters

  • All types, electric or not, in any condition. No motorbikes.

Small metal items (less than 10kg, made mostly of metal)

  • Kitchen items: pots, pans, baking trays, knives, cutlery, colanders, steel bowls

  • Handheld tools: hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, nail clippers, nails, nuts, bolts (bring small items in a container)

  • Dust bins, wire coat hangers – no plastic-coated hangers

  • Reusable drinking bottles, bottle caps

  • Keys, metal locks

  • Metal jewellery only, incl. gold and silver. No jewellery containing pearls, gems or other non-metal items.

Empty blister packs

  • Made of plastic and foil, or fully foil pill packets. Recycle cardboard boxes in your recycling bin.

May event trial - household furniture in great condition

  • Tables, chairs, sofas, bookcases, desks and more. See accepted furniture.

  • Must meet quality standards and be safely lifted by 2 people. No furniture containing glass.
