Come and get hands-on volunteering at Sydney City Farm.
This is a great opportunity to get involved with Sydney City Farm and meet others in your community.
New volunteers are required to attend a mandatory induction prior to joining one of our regular volunteer sessions. Once you've learnt the essentials, you're eligible to attend our regular volunteer sessions and can get involved as often as you like.
Before volunteering you also need to fill in the volunteer registration form. If you're unable to book online, please let us know and come along to the session anyway.
Upcoming sessions for 2026:
Saturday 11 July, NAIDOC week event
Saturday 25 July, Seed Saving workshop
About our volunteering sessions:
Volunteer sessions last for 2 hours and are held on Thursdays, Fridays and every second Saturday.
Thursday mornings are spent working on general farm activities in our cropping area. From watering and weeding to planting and harvesting, these sessions are great for new volunteers to get a taste for volunteering at the farm.
Friday mornings involve working in the plant nursery and depot area. Tasks include raising seedlings, collecting and processing seed, and caring for our small potted fruit trees. These sessions suit volunteers who want to develop plant propagation and nursery skills.
Saturday mornings are for project work in the farm’s orchard, floriculture, agroforestry demonstration garden beds, and edible display gardens like the mini fruit forest and agricultural crops.
Saturday afternoons we work on developing beds, upskilling on bed development and technical skills
Bookings are essential. No group bookings. For corporate volunteer enquiries please contact us at cityfarm@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au
Please wear clothes that can get dirty and covered sturdy shoes. Bring a hat, gardening gloves and water bottle.
Volunteer sessions will not proceed in wet, extreme or dangerous weather.
