Join this online course with author Eliza Henry-Jones to develop and enrich your research for writing skills. This course is packed with practical tips, examples, activities and resources that you’ll be able to utilise and adapt for countless future projects, both fiction and otherwise.

Feeling intimidated by the idea of researching? Perhaps you’re delving into historical fiction for the first time, or you’re unsure of where to start finding out about your latest character’s unusual profession. This practical course will take the mystery out of researching for prose writing, guiding you step by step through the process – from finding inspiration, to identifying useful sources, and navigating the wild world of information including historical archives, libraries, reddit, social media, and academic journals. Finally, we’ll cover handy tips for managing the material you’ve unearthed, and ways to harness it to breathe life into your writing.

Expected learning outcomes

In this workshop, participants will:

  1. Identify what research is required for their project

  2. Learn how to navigate a wide variety of information sources

  3. Learn tips and tricks for managing their material

  4. Learn how to incorporate research material into their project
