Saturday 9 August from 10:30am to 1:30pm
Prepare for launch during National Science Week! In this fun workshop, you’ll learn 3D modelling techniques to design your own planet using CAD (computer aided design).
Starting with a simple sphere, you’ll design your own planet by adding unique surface features and landforms. Think craters, towering mountain ranges, vast canyons, or swirling storm systems inspired by Jupiter. You can explore realistic planetary features or invent entirely new geological formations.
You’ll be guided to bring your planet to life using Tinkercad and Onshape in our fully equipped makerspace. Both programs are beginner friendly, open-source CAD tools that make it easy to turn your ideas into 3D models.
This hands-on session is designed for teens to explore the makerspace, learn fun STEM skills, and explore 3D printing.
What you’ll learn:
Basic 3D design (CAD) using Tinkercad & Onshape
Preparing your files for 3D printing
Basic 3D printing skills with the Bambu X1
What you’ll take home:
A 3D printed design, limited to a print time of 3 hours
Your 3D prints will be produced after the workshop finishes. We’ll email you when they’re ready to collect. You can pick them up within 14 days of your workshop date from the Level 1 Customer Service Desk.
