Thursday 16 October from 6pm to 8pm
After last year's resounding success, STEAMpop are running Men Make 2 again in 2025. A 2 hour workshop aimed at, but not exclusively for, men and boys. Men can bring a mate, son, partner. Women can bring their manbag. The workshop engages with play, mathematics and paper engineering.
Part one: Hungry Birds. Focusing on folding hyperbolic paraboloids (the shape of pringles and theoretically the universe), participants make and fix them to a mechatronic device called the ‘mini nest’. Operating on an ultrasonic sensor, the nest reveals a squawking illuminated surprise when activated by movement. Is it a bird or robot?
Part 2: Bucky’s Circus. Participants explore Richard Buckminster Fuller’s Cuboctahedron by folding paper units that connect together to make a spherical form reminiscent of Bucky’s ‘vector equilibrium’. Big words, small balls, tons of fun.
Workshop Thursday 16 October, 6 - 8pm.
