Celebrate Lunar New Year at N.Smith Gallery with a morning tea in collaboration with the Soul of Chinatown collective.

Enjoy a curated pairing of traditional Lunar New Year snacks and beverages amongst the vibrant solo exhibitions of Casey Chen and Louise Zhang in the gallery. Serving unique treats made by our local Haymarket Chinatown community, experience and share the food and culture of the Lunar New Year.

This event runs alongside the solo exhibitions of Casey Chen: Just Another Jingdezhen Car Boot Sale, an eclectic and playful collection of ceramics inspired by the nostalgia of daytime cartoons and popular culture through the aesthetic lens of traditional Asian ceramics,

and Louise Zhang: Moving in Quiet, as exploration of cultural heritage and third-culture identity through new and older works. Inspired by her recent trip to China, the exhibition invites viewers to slow down and uncover intricate narratives within elements of traditional architecture and ethereal landscapes.

This event in collaboration with Soul of Chinatown, a non-profit community group based in Sydney’s Chinatown, whose mission is to uplift and advocate for the area. It does so by putting a spotlight on Chinatown, working to preserve the culture, history and tradition of Sydney’s Chinatown and its community, but also looking to the present and the future. Learn more about their work here.

All welcome!
