This lantern installation is 43 metres in length, with a canopy of 756 coloured lanterns, lighting up Haymarket at the start of the Lunar New Year.
Above the canopy sit 12 animal lanterns of the Chinese zodiac, who rushed to the finish line in the story of the Great Race. Being the Year of the Horse, the horse lantern is featured at the head of the installation, followed by the ram, monkey, rooster, dog, pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon and the snake.
Each animal lantern is constructed from coloured fabric stretched over a wire frame. The 12 animals are playfully depicted, with a charming naivety. Many of the animal lanterns feature scarlet red, a symbol of luck and emerald green, a nod to the mineral jade. These combine with other bold colours to create a joyous display, appealing to the inner child in us all.
Roam under a canopy of colour and light, capture your special moment and be enchanted by whimsical animal lanterns, each a radiant beacon of celebration.
