Tuesday 2 June from 6pm to 9pm
First woman to cross Lake Baikal on foot, Gina Johansen shares stories from solo ski expeditions and Arctic adventures. She has spent the last eight years more than 1000 km above the Arctic Circle in Norway, dedicating her life to the outdoors.
Through her talk, she will take us from Siberia and Lake Baikal to long solo ski expeditions across the Arctic wilderness in Scandinavia. She will also share experiences from a girls’ ski trip across Spitsbergen in Svalbard, in the home of polar bears.
Gina will describe what it feels like to camp in temperatures as low as –50°C and the challenges of navigating frozen landscapes. Along the way, she reflects on solitude, endurance, and the thrill of life in the Arctic. Her talk is a journey through some of the world’s wildest places, filled with adventure, resilience, and the beauty of nature.
Despite her young age, Gina Johansen has already accomplished incredible adventures. She grew up on a horse farm on Sweden’s west coast. She moved to Sydney to ride racehorses as a trackwork rider, and during her time in Australia she rode her bicycle from Sydney to Cairns.
In 2018, she embarked on a 60-day solo ski expedition from North Cape through the Arctic wilderness, and the following year she crossed Lake Baikal solo and hiked the length of Norway—2,642 km in 102 days. She has spent the last eight years living near the North Cape, exploring the Arctic.
Gina is now preparing to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole, aiming to break the women’s speed record
The Inspire Adventure Series is a monthly event designed to ignite your passion for the outdoors through captivating presentations by adventurers who share their experiences via multimedia slideshows. Beyond the presentation and Q&A session, there's an opportunity to connect with like-minded people, exchange ideas, and perhaps even find a partner for your next adventure.
We encourage you to bring along children and teenagers – we’d love to inspire the next generation of adventurers too. Join us for an evening of adventure, storytelling, and community.
