Explore 150 years of Sydney’s working-class history

At Susannah Place, history isn’t behind glass – it’s under your feet, in the walls, and in the voices of those who lived here. Through intimate guided tours, we tell the stories of everyday families who helped shape Sydney.

Built in 1844 and home to more than 100 working families, these four humble terraces in The Rocks survived slum clearances, redevelopment and gentrification and are a testament to Sydney’s urban and social history.

Today, they offer an unvarnished look into the resilience, routines and resourcefulness of Sydney’s past residents. Their stories, told through original belongings, oral histories and preserved interiors, help us to understand who we are today.

Guided tours are available to book at mhnsw.au/visit-us/susannah-place
