Monday 20 April from 10am to 3pm
From ancient Homeric epics to Percy Jackson, the world has thrilled at ancient Greek myths and stories for thousands of years.
In this full-day drop-off children's workshop we will use ancient Greek artefacts and objects from the Chau Chak Wing Museum's collection to explore the stories of ancient Greek myth and legend and the very essence of storytelling.
Help us identify the gods, goddesses and heroes in the museum's collections and explore with us the way they and the stories were visualised. We will learn about the art of storytelling in spoken, visual, written and performed forms through a series of fun-filled activities in the museum's galleries and education room.
In the workshop we will:
handle genuine archaeological artefacts
create our own art inspired by ancient Greek mythology
learn some ancient myths and the way they were told in ancient Greece
put on a production of an ancient play telling the story of Perseus and Medusa
make our own Greek vase
explore the current exhibition about Herakles
create our own monster and develop an epic story around it
Suitable for 8-13 year olds. Children to be dropped off at the museum foyer.
Please bring your own bag with your own morning tea and lunch, plus a water bottle.
