Sunday 10 May from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese pottery technique that means “to hollow.” In this hands-on, beginner-friendly class, you’ll start with a single solid block of clay and slowly carve it away to reveal an organic, one-of-a-kind vessel that’s entirely your own.
Kurinuki is all about intuition and imperfection. Rather than aiming for symmetry, you’ll be encouraged to work spontaneously, letting the clay guide you. The process is deeply calming, beautifully tactile, and unexpectedly liberating - perfect if you’re looking to slow down, get out of your head and make something meaningful with your hands.
With a maximum of 8 students per class, our experienced and friendly instructor will guide you step-by-step, with live demonstrations and plenty of one-on-one support. Over the course of the session, you’ll carve and shape up to two functional vessels, such as cups or small bowls. Once complete, your pieces will be carefully dried, fired, and glazed in our studio glazes.
