"The paintings in this exhibition are the culmination of extensive field visits, including the Daintree and Dorrigo Rainforests. During these excursions, I engage in on-site sketching and capture photographs that serve as reference points when immediate drawing is not practical. This intimate process of becoming increasingly familiar with each location is vital , allowing me to connect beyond the literal, and more deeply with the natural environment.

I aspire to evoke a profound sensory response that captures the essence of being immersed in the landscape. This exploration frequently results in distorted horizons and a deliberate emphasis on simplification, both of which mirror the nature of memory and perception."

David Manks is a graduate of the National Art School, East Sydney Technical College and City Art Institute (now UNSW) completing his Master of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong.

David has been regularly exhibiting since 1989 being awarded numerous art prizes with his work being featured regularly in articles and publications. He is a regular Art Award finalist, including in the Mosman Art prize, Camden Art Prize, Fleurieu Art Prize, and Paddington Art Prize.

His work is held in numerous private and public Collections in Australia, Dubai, New Zealand, United Kingdom, China, Netherlands and the US.

All exhibited works are available for purchase in gallery and online from 10 May 2025.
