Workshop: Understanding inequality and intersectionality

When

Wednesday 18 March from 10am to 12pm

This Connect Sydney workshop explores how systems of inequality work, where they come from and how they connect to each other. You'll learn about intersectionality, the idea that our overlapping identities including race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation and class combine to shape a person’s experience. Explore how understanding it can help us work toward a fairer society.

You'll have the chance to reflect on your own place within these systems and develop tools for thinking more critically about inequality, including an honest look at what intersectionality can and can't achieve. The session is designed to build critical thinking, self-awareness and practical ways to work with and challenge unfair systems.

The workshop uses a mix of group activities, open discussion and personal reflection. It’s facilitated by women, people of diverse sexualities and genders, and/or people of colour with professional expertise and lived experience.

Presented by  Hue. Colour the Conversation.

Places are limited to 2 people per organisation.

If you have any particular access or communication needs, please contact social program officer Vicky Skarlatos on 02 9265 9333 or vskarlatos@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au
