As part of the City of Sydney Archives 50th anniversary celebrations, join us for this community conversation exploring the rich history of Kings Cross.

City historian Laila Ellmoos and archivists Janet Villata and Jennifer Palmer will lead a discussion centred around Robyn Dalton's 1965 memoir Aunts up the Cross. One of many literary works inspired by Kings Cross, the memoir offers a glimpse into the area’s social history through the story of a close-knit but often quarrelling family.

Drawing on material from the City of Sydney Archives, the session will explore how Kings Cross has changed over time and the many roles it has played in Sydney’s cultural life. We will share archival gems from our collections of Kings Cross and surrounds, including photographs, building plans, early maps and more.
