Join BINDI BOSSES, an independent South Asian contemporary dance company, for two vibrant workshops that blend ancient tradition with modern choreography.
Led by Shyamla, immerse yourself in Parai Attam, a 3000-year-old Tamil artform where folk dance steps are set to the pulse of live Parai drum beats, bringing ancient rhythms and stories to life. Alternatively, dive into Hip Hop Fusion, and learn choreography to BARKAA’s victorious anthem WE UP, fusing Hip Hop and South Asian moves in a powerful show of solidarity with First Nations artists.

WORKSHOP 1: MOVE YOUR FEET TO LIVE TAMIL BEATS WITH BINDI BOSSES

Dance to India’s oldest drum and experience the joy of Parai Attam, a 3000 year old Tamil artform featuring folk dance steps set to LIVE Parai drum beats. Join Shyamla, Smrithi, Sarangi and Shimran to learn how to express ancient rhythms, stories and concepts using your hands, feet, voice and body. Shyamla regularly travels to Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu to practise Parai Attam at its source.
WORKSHOP 2: WE UP BINDI BOSSES HIP HOP FUSION

Join BINDI BOSSES dancers for an adapted choreography of “WE UP” by BARKAA, celebrating First Nations artists. Learn foundational HIP HOP moves and grooves mixed with BB’s signature South Asian twist. The playlist features bangers by so-called Australia’s hottest local First Nations and South Asian artists so get ready to move it like you mean it because WE UP!
