Dr Mark Fowler’s book Beauty and the Law takes the reader on an introductory journey through Western intellectual history, observed through the prism of the relation of beauty to justice.

It harnesses the insights of philosophy, aesthetics, theology, literature and jurisprudence to fashion a coherent conceptual framework sufficient to enable just action by those committed to the common good. Interrogating the foundations of contemporary postmodernism, it finds within the law the space for beauty, truth and the good to make their continuing claims upon us.

Please join us at St James' Hall on Thursday 20th August to hear Justice Keith Mason interview Dr Fowler about his book and enter dialogue around its themes. This event is a collaboration between the St James' Institute and the New South Wales Christian Lawyers Society. Refreshments will be served.

Dr Mark Fowler is Principal of Fowler Charity Law, President of the New South Wales Christian Lawyers' Society, and Appeals Panel member for the Australian Council for International Development. His specialist practice areas include schools, international aid organisations, retirement villages, aged care facilities and religious organisations, with a keen interest in the affordable, community and social housing sectors. Mark is also Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of the Northern Territory. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New England School and the University of Notre Dame.

The Hon. Keith Mason AC KC has been solicitor, barrister, law reformer, Solicitor-General, President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, law teacher and mediator. Among other subjects he has published on the interface of law, morality and religion, was for many years chancellor of the Diocese of Armidale, and was President of the Appellate Tribunal of the Anglican Church of Australia; he also held adjunct positions at UNSW, Melbourne, and was Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of New South Wales.
