Sunday 5 July from 2pm to 5pm
Wind is an earthly constant. It acts as a gentle reminder of those forces which humble us. While Wind Turbines and Wind Mills do a great job of harnessing this cosmic force, Wind Chimes collaborate to generate a sound that actualises it. As the wind touches so many different parts of Earth, it takes upon so many different meanings. Consider how the wind is viewed if you were a sailor, a bird, a dandelion, or a wind chime. The wind presents a perfect analogy to meaning and memory. Just as thoughts flow into our mind so does the wind catch a sail and gently tug at it.
This workshop will facilitate each patron to create their very own meaningful wind chime. In doing so, whenever the wind blows or the chime sounds, you can be reminded of something. While nothing need be brought except open eyes and ears, sentimental or found objects may be brought to incorporate into a personalised wind chime to act as a tangible reminder of something not to be forgotten.
Images artists own, the Saw Chime made with four stainless steel kitchen spoons which Bradley chanced upon in a back alley in Lewisham one night, saw blade donated by a friend; the Star Chime features two pieces of sea glass foraged from Little Bay during an overcast afternoon.
