‘Tracery is an architectural term referring to decorative openwork, particularly in Gothic design. It seems the right word to describe the distinctive open-weaved ceramic forms I’ve been developing over the past few decades – forms that are intricate and skeletal, echoing the inherent architecture of nature.

These sculptural forms are both a celebration of our planet’s extraordinary biodiversity and a meditation on its vulnerability. I think of them as speculative evolutions – imagined organisms that embody resilience, beauty, transformation, and humour. Underlying is the question: what kind of future are we shaping for the ecosystems we depend on? By tracing the inherent patterns of natural forms, I’m discovering a universal rhythm that connects all living things.’ – Tracie Bertram
