I draw people engaged in daily life, usually in groups, mostly around inner west Sydney. The ordinary interactions between and among people are the foundations of living culture.
As I draw, I can’t hear what they are saying to each other, but the body language tells its own visual story. This exhibition is called ‘the eyes!’ because of the way the eyes popped out at me from the paintings once I assembled them on the wall.
I don’t think any of us fully understand the emotional importance of, in person, eye-to-eye interactions.
Our narrow bandwidth attempts to communicate online seem to be driving fear, suspicion and the breakdown of community.
I hope you can make it to the exhibition opening event on Sat Nov 1 (4-7pm).
