About the amazing Sydney Town Hall grand organ:
The grand organ was installed in 1890 as a major feature of the new Sydney Town Hall, the world’s largest town hall and second largest concert hall at the time. Labelled the world’s finest concert organ when it was unveiled, the instrument is now of great historical significance and would cost around $20 million to replace.
Built by William Hill and Son of London, the organ was also the biggest in the world at the time, with 126 speaking stops, nearly 9,000 pipes and a unique 64 foot pedal stop. It is still the largest organ ever constructed with tubular pneumatic playing action. The spectacular front case was designed by Arthur Hill.
