e-Galaxy is an immersive, participatory installation combining video, miniature sculptures, artist books, and jewellery. Audiences are invited to activate the ‘galaxy’ by dismantling old electronic devices, responding to guided prompts, and adding components to an ever-evolving spiral.

Counterpointing our throwaway culture, e-Galaxy draws attention to the beauty of the everyday, the mundane, and the discarded. It raises awareness about recycling, sustainability and some of the human and environmental costs involved in making electronic devices. As the pace of domestic consumption accelerates, e-Galaxy reconnects participants with the material reality of manufacture. It explores the archaeology of technology from accumulated years of inventions while highlighting how the minerals in these machines have taken millions of years to form and yet an instant to mine.

“By opening and reworking electronic devices together, I question planned obsolescence, overconsumption, and the systems that control knowledge. e-Galaxy invites a shared, hands-on understanding of what our technologies truly contain—and asks how we might think, make, and live differently together.

“My work explores the hidden realities of our electronic world. While many of us take constant access to electricity for granted, hundreds of millions of people worldwide still do not have it. The minerals powering our devices are often mined under unfair conditions, sometimes by children. Rare earth elements—essential to contemporary technologies—are increasingly scarce and tied to global conflict. Through this work, I explore these realities from my position of access, and invite others to reflect on them too.” – Suzon Fuks
