This Pentecost Sunday, The Choir of St James and Camerata Antica will present Missa In labore requies" by Georg Muffat (1653 - 1704) at the 10am Festal Eucharist.
This opulent musical setting is written for 24 parts: five "choirs"- two vocal, and three instrumental groups comprising trumpets, cornets, trombones, violins, violas, two theorbos, and two organs. The title is taken from the text of the Pentecost Sequence 'Veni, Sancte Spiritus', Muffat having chosen the line In labore requies - Thou in labour rest most sweet". This will be the first performance of this extraordinary musical work in Australia, bringing together a remarkable group of singers and musicians for fitting celebration of Pentecost the Birthday of the Church.
