Do you already know how to thread a sewing machine but are looking to advance your current skills and delve into garment making? Come along to this sewing class, hosted by Sydney Creative in Redfern.
The pattern we use comes in different lengths. Choose to make:
Short shorts
Bermuda shorts
Knee-length capri shorts
Ankle-length pants
Full-length wide leg pants
Our pattern sizing is from size 6-18, if you are on either end of this scale and would like to double-check our pattern will fit, you can measure your hips with a measuring tape. Stand with heels apart and measure around the fullest part of the hip and bottom area all the way around. The minimum measurement for our pattern is a hip measurement of 88cm, or the largest is 128cm.
In this intermediate class, you'll be guided through the entire process by your teacher, however, previous sewing experience is essential to follow along, with a basic understanding of a sewing machine required. As this is an advanced-beginner class, participants are expected to wind the bobbin and thread the sewing machine independently.
The shorts/pants class is typically full with participants who recently completed our Sewing For Beginners class. Making your own shorts or pants is a great next step in your sewing journey, especially if you have completed our beginner's class.
You'll be guided through the entire process by your experienced sewing teacher. You'll learn the following sewing skills:
Measuring your hips to choose the right pattern size
Cutting your paper pattern
Laying your pattern pieces on the fabric with the grainline
Working through the pattern instructions
Garment construction
Taster on using the overlocker
Sewing an elasticated waistband
Hemming
Each participant will need to bring fabric to this session. A PDF will be attached to the booking confirmation email containing more information on what type of fabric to purchase, where to buy from and how much to purchase.
There will be a 30 minute break in this session, feel free to bring lunch along with you, or there are plenty of cafes around for you to enjoy.
