Celebrate National Science Week by learning the basics of 3D modelling and designing your own planet using Blender 3D.

Starting with a simple sphere, you'll create unique surface features such as craters, mountain ranges, canyons or swirling storm systems. Take inspiration from real planets or design an entirely imagined world.

You'll be guided through the process of creating a 3D model using Blender, a free and powerful 3D design program, in our fully equipped makerspace. Your finished planet will be prepared for 3D printing after the workshop.

This hands-on session is a great introduction to 3D modelling and digital fabrication, while exploring the creative possibilities of 3D printing.

What you’ll learn:

  • Basic 3D design (CAD) using Blender 3D

  • Preparing your files for 3D printing

  • Basic 3D printing skills with the Bambu X1

What you’ll take home:

  • A 3D printed design, limited to a print time of 3 hours

  • You can collect your 3D print from the level 1 library loans desk 1-2 weeks after the workshop (you will be notified via email when your print is ready to collect).

Details:

  • Bookings essential

  • Experience level: all levels, no prior making experience required

We think carefully about the suggested age range for our activities and this workshop is only appropriate for adults over the age of 16+ years.
