13th Queer Screen Film Fest

The 13th Queer Screen Film Fest takes place from 2–8 September at Event Cinemas George St.

The festival opens with Jim Queen, a vibrant animated satire fresh from its Cannes premiere, where a buff influencer and a shy twink team up to find a cure for a bizarre virus turning queer people straight.

Closing the festival is Sweet Milk Lake, a moving Australian drama about brotherhood, identity, and the boyhoods left behind, starring Harvey Zielinski and Hunter Page-Lochard, followed by a post-screening Q&A with the filmmaker.

The 2026 program spans continents and genres, with cinema highlights including Lukas Dhont’s First World War romance Coward; Joan Chen in the poignant relationship drama Montreal, My Beautiful; and La Bola Negra, an ambitious Spanish epic starring Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close.

Other program highlights include Hunky Jesus, a riotous and joyful tribute to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence; Paloma Schneideman's Sundance coming-of-age debut Big Girls Don't Cry, executive produced by Jane Campion; period courtroom drama The Education of Jane Cumming; the groundbreaking neo-noir classic Bound; and the gripping contemporary relationship drama TEST.

Australian spotlights feature the neon-soaked crime thriller Body Blow, Alice Maio Mackay’s retro sci-fi horror Our Effed Up World for Trans and Gender Diverse Community Night, and Australian shorts including G.O.A.T, Souvenir, and Spiders on My Lashline.
