Pink is a series of works exploring the intricate nature of pink, a colour capable of evoking a wide range of emotions and meanings. From sensuality and calmness to the exotic and even threatening, pink shifts in its significance depending on context. Kyle Hoffman captures these nuances through his analogue photography, inviting viewers to reflect on the complex cultural and emotional power of this colour.

Kyle has been using medium format film on the Hasselblad V system since 2014, a choice that enhances his ability to create large, detailed prints. The system, renowned for its precision and iconic history, including NASA’s moon missions, requires intentionality in every shot. Each frame counts, allowing Kyle to focus deeply on the composition and mood of each photograph. His work echoes the craftsmanship and care that defined traditional photography before the rise of digital tools.

Hoffman’s preferred film stocks include Bergger Pancro 400 and Kodak Tri-X 400 for black and white images, developed with Kodak Xtol to achieve a rich, painterly grain. His tactile approach to shooting film emphasizes the physicality of creating a photographic object – something that can be discovered years later, carrying with it a sense of alchemy and experimentation. Colour films are either developed at home or by a local lab, furthering his hands-on approach to the craft.

Based in Sydney, Australia, Kyle’s work is inspired by the natural world and the hidden forces that shape human perception. His images invite viewers to engage with the ways these mechanisms influence reality, filtered through personal and cultural lenses.

Hoffman’s work has been exhibited internationally, including in Australia, the United States, Bali, and the UK. His pieces are part of both corporate and private collections, as well as the National Archives in Washington, D.C. His fine art prints are created using Platinum Palladium and Fine Art Archival Pigment processes, ensuring each work maintains its depth and quality over time.

This exhibition highlights the transformative nature of pink, challenging viewers to reconsider how a single colour can convey multiple layers of emotion and meaning.

RSVP essential for opening night.
