Mornington Peninsula artist Paul McIntyre’s latest exhibition The Sea and the Silver Lining pays homage to the sea and clouds.
These paintings reflect on the mesmerising experience of gazing at the vast and infinite sea and sky. The scale of this subject matter offers a unique perspective and provides an opportunity to contemplate our place in the world. I was drawn to the large shapes and plains of clouds, sky, sea and sand. I felt that these elements could be represented in paintings with the use of bold composition, and expressive techniques.
The work aims to capture the ever changing and moving marine environment, and shows respect and appreciation for its power, beauty, and drama.
Paul McIntyre was born in Melbourne and now lives on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. He studied graphic design and advertising at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and worked as a sculptor for ten years in wire, steel, and timber, before extending his artistic mediums to pursue a painting career in 2011. Since then, he has had select group and solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney.
