Recognised as the best foundation for acting, the Meisner technique is one of the most respected in the industry. It’s founded on the principle of letting character interactions come naturally through imaginative play and improvisation. Our students use this to enhance their performances by looking within themselves to effect others to reveal the emotional truth of the moment.

The Actors Pulse allows you to study at Australia’s leading Meisner school. As part of our part-time, on-site & online course, we offer three levels to cater to all skill levels – with Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced courses.

  • Beginners: Our beginner level focuses on building a solid foundation - not only technically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. The unique foundation exercises carefully build the world around you without taking away what’s unique about you.

  • Intermediate: Now that the solid foundation has been built, our Meisner Technique coaches and tutors will show you how to focus on building a deeper connection with the imaginary world. We explore texts using your own fantasies and desires to bring an inner life to the text that is truly your own.

  • Advanced: We focus on the story and the characters that live within it. It’s our job as actors to honour the writing. Sanford Meisner referred to this as building the banks of the river. The inner life of the character that actors learn to shape in the intermediate level of the course is the 'water' within these banks. In the advanced course, we learn how to build the 'banks of the river' and navigate the waters within it.

This course will allow you to:

  • explore and strengthen your imagination and improvisational skills

  • develop your emotional range and ability to affect another person

  • explore and develop skills to tell stories through performance

  • learn how to create believable and truthful characters

  • bring truth and integrity to your work, to enable a compelling performance

  • benefit from stage, film and television techniques.

  • build the skills that allow you to confidently approach any material

  • learn how to make the script work for successful auditions
