Every day, 5pm to 7pm Friday 21 November to Saturday 22 November
Sydney artist Jo Josephsen presents Medieval Treasures, an exhibition of 30 religious works inspired by medieval and Renaissance traditions.
Spanning 8th-century Beatus illuminations, 13th-century Gothic portraits, and 15th-century Mannerist martyrs, each piece is crafted on aged wood panels through a meditative, centuries-old process: sanded, sealed with rabbit-skin gesso, layered with Armenian red bole, gilded with 23kt gold leaf, and burnished with agate. Halos are tooled into the metal before underpainting in egg tempera terra verde and delicate final colour glazing.
This labour of devotion transforms ancient techniques into luminous contemporary icons.
Free exhibition runs over 2 nights, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd November, 5-7pm
All works are available for sale. Catalogue available on request.
