Mating Dance by Anna-Wili Highfield is an installation featuring life-sized brolgas in courtship formations, paying homage to Australia’s principal dancing bird.

Crafted from cotton paper and brass, the sculptures are suspended like marionettes, frozen mid-ballet in a gesture of call, response, and mimicry.

Accompanied by Bree Van Reyk’s sound piece, inspired by the brolga’s bold trumpeting, Mating Dance captures the shared spirit between humans and animals. Highfield's sculptures explore the tension between material limitations and the complex realism of form.

Anna-Wili Highfield’s sculptures are collected worldwide. They have been featured in numerous publications and held the cover of Sculpture Review USA. She has exhibited in Australia and overseas.
