The annual performances of Handel’s Messiah at the Sydney Town Hall have been essential part of Sydney’s Christmas celebrations every year since 1941.
Handel’s Messiah includes some of the most famous and best-loved music in the world, and features iconic choruses and sparkling arias. The music moves the audience from thoughtful reflection to thrilling climaxes, and heart-aching sentimentality.
The choir and orchestra will perform all the well-known choruses from Messiah including, of course, the Hallelujah Chorus.
More than 400 volunteer choristers will come together from across Sydney to sing on stage, where they will be joined by soloists Molly Ryan (soprano), Shikara Ringdahl (alto), Wesley Yu (tenor) and Jeremy Boulton (baritone). The choir will be under the direction of conductor Timothy Chung, accompanied by Mark Quarmby on the magnificent Sydney Town Hall pipe organ, and orchestra.
The annual performances of Handel’s Messiah are presented by Radio Community Chest Incorporated, a not-for-profit, charitable organisation, registered with the Australian Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). Following the example of George Frederic Handel, profits from ticket sales are used to benefit the needy in our local area and support music education and emerging artists.
