Saturday 7 December from 1pm to 8pm
Newtown locals and mates Young Henrys and The Courty are kicking off summer by taking over Eliza Street to host the Newtown Street Party with loads of live music, cold tinnies, and epic food on Saturday 7 December.
It’s a free event, with donations on the door going directly to the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.
The Newtown Street Party is inner west summer at its best. From 1pm through to 8pm, expect a stacked line-up of Australian music talent spanning indie, rock, soul, and alt-country talent on the outdoor stage headlined by local music royalty, Caitlin Hartnett and the Pony Boys. Don’t miss Sydney’s psychedelic duo Velvet Trip and a very special DJ set by the OG Red Wiggle, Murray Cook himself. Alt-rock and roll band Good Pash, fuzz-laden, alt-doo-wop group The Melodrones, and indie/pop singer-songwriter Maia Toakley are also locked in to perform alongside The Soul Movers and Johnny Cash cover band, JJ Geary and the Tennessee Three. Plus, there’s more to be announced soon.
Of course, there’ll be plenty of Young Henrys tinnies on offer, including Newtowner which celebrates its 13th birthday. Fill up on food favourites like porchetta rolls by The Bank Hotel, burgers by The Courty, and woodfired pizzas by Public House Petersham. Pop up bars and food stalls will be dotted along Eliza Street, with the street party vibes pouring into The Courty and its beer garden too.
Newtown Street Festival is a labour of love for old mates, Young Henrys and The Courty. It’s a friendship that began in 2012 when The Courty took a punt on a small, local brewer and became the first ever pub to pour Young Henrys now flagship beer, Newtowner. In its third year, the Newtown Street Party is expected to attract around 5,000 locals and music lovers throughout the course of the day.
