Led by members of the ground-breaking Human Remains Research Project team, unearth four ancient Egyptian individuals. Far from their place of birth and death, who decides how these individuals are treated, studied, or displayed? What responsibilities arise when the dead are also understood as ancestors by living communities?

This archaeologist led gallery tour is followed by an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience, where you’ll encounter objects linked to funerary practices – an exploration of lives and afterlives, and the complexities of care across ancient, historical and contemporary time.

The Chau Chak Wing Museum is proud to be a part of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2026. This August, Festival of Dangerous Ideas takes over Sydney with 10 days of talks, arts, film screenings and behind-the-scenes excursions of iconic Sydney institutions all live and in person across 14 iconic venues.
