Mondays and Thursdays to Sundays, 11am to 5pm Thursday 13 March to Monday 7 April
Opening Night on 13 March from 6pm
Fading Glow is a group show that aims to honour and reflect on the city of Hong Kong and the many iconographies of the city, through an homage to iconographies such as the classic neon signages that once adorned the city line of Hong Kong streets, to the bustling nature of the Dai Pai Dong street vendors feeding morning and late night meals for locals.
These iconographies such as neon lights were not only emblematic of Hong Kong’s post-war economic boom but also served as markers of local businesses, culture, and the vibrant nightlife that once painted the city’s energy. Today, with new regulations, technological advances and changes to Hong Kong, iconographies such as this unique craft and its cultural impact are fading, leaving behind a dimmed legacy of the once-glowing cityscape.
In conjunction with the upcoming installation through Dixon Street, Haymarket, Neon Playground looks to activate outside of the streets of Dixon, partnering with Blank Gallery to exhibit Fading Glow.
