Clay, crayon and concrete are the key materials used by the artists whose work will be on show at The Shop Gallery, 112 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, 16 to 22 October 2025. Ursula Burgoyne, Jan Spencer and Graham Byrne have used their favoured material creatively for many years, and recently exhibited their work in several group shows in Sydney.

Ursula Burgoyne’s sculptural and functional work explores several processes to make forms which draw attention to the tactility of clay and the unpredictabilities of firing with wood to high temperatures.

Jan Spencer’s crayon collages highlight the colours and patterns of landscape views captured on many cycling trips in regional Australia, the thick oil crayons play with the torn edges of the coloured papers to create luminous small artworks.

Graham Byrne’s sculptural planters use scavenged metal, twisted re-bar from demolition sites, old machinery and concrete to transform the common plant stand and pot into intriguing, finely balanced forms.
