This July, something extraordinary is coming to life inside the Sydney Opera House — and kids are the architects of it all! City of Wonder is an immersive, interactive, purpose-driven experience where children become city-builders, dreamers, and problem-solvers in hands-on workshops that combine sustainability, storytelling, and creative play.

Running from 10–18 July, the experience is open to families with kids aged 4 and up, with special drop-off sessions available for 10–14 year olds. Tickets are just $10 per participant, offering an accessible and unforgettable holiday outing inside one of Australia’s most iconic buildings.

At the heart of the experience is internationally renowned Italian artist Raffaele Salvoldi, known for his epic, ephemeral constructions made from nothing but small planks and a big imagination. This latest project invites children to build — and rebuild — a growing cityscape using planks made entirely from 100% recycled plastic waste, highlighting the power of creative collaboration and sustainable design.

Co-created with Kidwonder — a home-grown Australian initiative that transforms big global ideas into immersive, child-led adventures — City of Wonder is part of a growing movement to raise a generation of problem-solvers. Every Kidwonder experience is designed to spark creativity, ignite meaningful conversations, and empower kids to know they can make a difference — and take action. Kidwonder’s second major experience is already in the works and set to launch in Sydney late 2025.

City of Wonder is part of the Sydney Opera House’s Centre for Creativity program and other initiatives, which is dedicated to making the arts accessible to all ages. Whether your child is a budding builder, an eco-conscious thinker, or just brimming with imagination, City of Wonder is a must-do this school holiday.
