On National Tree Day, we'll plant underneath our trees. Understory, or smaller plants and shrubs, is as crucial as canopy to make sure there's somewhere for animals to forage, hide from predators, and nest.
We’ll plant 5000 native grasses, herbs and wildflowers. By planting specific grasses that native insects prefer, we can support bees and butterflies, enhance pollination, and provide food for little birds.
There are two planting days to choose from:
10am Friday 25 July at Harold Park, Glebe- register now
10am Sunday 27 July at Federal Park, Glebe- register now
This year we’re boosting biodiversity at Bicentennial Park and Harold Park, by planting in the habitat corridor that runs from the Glebe Foreshore along Johnston’s Creek. When patches of plants are close together in a habitat corridor, it’s safer and easier for animals to move around our city.
We'll start at 10am and finish once everything is planted or by midday.
This is a family-friendly event and parents must supervise their children at all times.
We recommend using public transport as there’s limited parking in the area. Please wear enclosed shoes and dress sun safe. We recommend trousers, hats and long sleeves.
Bring your own water bottle and gardening gloves if you have them. Fruit and water will be available.
For the everyone’s safety, this event may be postponed or cancelled in extreme weather.
