Connect with the creative expression of nine artists’ very personal experience of taking steps toward mental wellbeing at the 2025 Buckingham House Art Exhibition, 9 October 2025, 6-8:30pm.
In celebration of Mental Health Month 2025, the event is a highlight of the 70th anniversary year of Flourish Australia championing the mental wellbeing of all Australians. Compelling works bring to life an aspect of each artist’s own lived experience and recovery journey, in line with this year’s Mental Health Month theme, ‘Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey’.
Affectionately dubbed ‘Buckhouse’ by locals, Flourish Australia’s Buckingham House has been a haven of hope in the heart of Surry Hills since 1963, the year Queen Elizabeth visited Surry Hills and the Governor of NSW officially opened our organisation’s central headquarters and workshop at the site.
It has evolved along with the city, into a central go-to for practical and personalised psychosocial support, empathetic care and advocacy, focused on coming alongside people with lived experience of complex mental health issues on their recovery journey, and connecting the village community.
The in-house cafe supplied by Oz Harvest feeds hundreds of people each year, creates connection for their families and carers, and offers traineeships to up-skill those looking to re-enter open employment.
‘Buckhouse is seen as the way this city we love takes care of its own!’
The annual Buckhouse Art Exhibit gives creative souls an outlet for sharing their lived experience with the wider community in a way anyone can connect with. It is open to anyone involved in Flourish Australia’s art groups, hosted at Marrickville, Flowerdale and Surry Hills, giving rise to an extraordinary range of works by uniquely inspired minds.
